Miguel is a teenager who, having lost his father, looks after his senile grandfather and little sister Anita whilst his mother goes out to work. He divides his time between school and his group of eternal friends. Within Miguel’s mind exists a personification of Mr.Spock, his interplanetary friend from Spaceship Enterprise, who offers him wise advice. The figure of Mr.Spock is probably a forgotten memory of his father. However, the time has now come for Miguel to take his own decisions in a world that is forever changing around him, dragging him relentlessly along with it. Amidst all this confusion his life changes once again when he meets Alicia, a somewhat strange classmate who spends her time writing stories. She soon becomes his friend and later his confidante and girlfriend. Together they invoke the spirits and share in the world of classic tales, turning the latter into surprising stories that Miguel conjures up on his computer. Throughout the story, Miguel has to face up to a number of circumstances that typically affect boys of his age, such as anxiety, first love... He also has to come to terms with other circumstances brought about by life itself, such as the death of his father, the degenerative disease suffered by his grandfather, his mother’s decision to go out to work and her involvement with a new man...
In the end Alicia takes her leave, but not without promising to love him and to send him a book entitled “Where is Mr.Spock?”
Finally, the reader is left with the image of a continuous circle, since this is the book that Alicia couldn’t write because she lacked self-confidence, a confidence that Miguel can give her.
