Like all young children, the protagonist of our story has a special relationship with his grandfather, which is based on friendship and caring. In this case, grandfather and grandson live under the same roof, so the bonds of love between the two are especially strong. They are good friends and occasionally even accomplices.
But the passage of time is inexorable, and one day, when our young protagonist comes home and looks everywhere for his grandfather, he is no longer there. His mother explains that grandpa has departed on a long voyage. Extremely confused and distressed, the boy wonders what he might have done to cause his grandpa to make such a drastic decision. Finally, his mother explains exactly what has happened so that her son won’t feel like he’s to blame.
Moving and thought provoking, this endearing story tackles the difficult subject of death. In addition, it encourages adults to approach delicate situations such as this one with love and sensitivity, yet honestly. Part of the “Montaña Encantada” (Enchanted Mountain) series, this picture book features magnificent illustrations that perfectly complement the text.
